[Parody] The Singing Hosanna Song

New Parody Song

I am thrilled to have a brand new parody song, based on the hit one-hit wonder song “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes.  This song has had a resurgence as of late, particularly for its inclusion in the hit nostalgia soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy.

Let’s just say that once the idea was planted, I couldn’t shake the thought, and I really enjoyed the underlying joke.  That being, a song written from the perspective of one of the disciples (probably Bartholomew), who is caught up in the ecstatic reception of Jesus upon entry in Jerusalem.  What could possibly go wrong?

I sincerely hope you enjoy this song as much as I had creating it.  It’s a little rough around the corners, I admit.  But nonetheless, if you like this, feel free to share it with your friends.

The Singing Hosanna Song

Parody of “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)”
by Rupert Holmes.

Twelve of us, we were walking

Down to Jerusalem

We knew that there was this donkey

That was waiting for Him.

A Disciple’s life isn’t easy

I need some boost of morale.

But then we entered this city

And heard the people’s chorale:

They were singing “Hosanna!”

As we marched in parade.

Miles of palm branches, togas

Them all lyin’ prostrate.

You could just feel the love from this sight

No one here, feeling hate.

We’re with the King we had hoped for,

And His Kingdom awaits.

Days of Caesar, they’re ending

Brings a tear to my eye.

This love for Jesus is trending

Now, I’m hangin’ with the most popular
cool guy.

Yet one time, our Master

He stated He was to die.

But He must have been kidding!

Oh He’s One humorous Guy…

Just hear that singing, “Hosanna!”

As we marched in parade.

We were caught up in euphoria

Of all that went down that day.

You could just feel the love from this sight

No one here dealing hate.

We’re with the King on his donkey,

And His Kingdom awaits.

Now the marching is over

And the work has begun

To prepare the Passover

Lots of chores to get done.

It will be one for the ages,

Tonight is not gonna flop.

For there’s one thing that’s certain,

You know that it most definitely will top….

all that singing “Hosannas!”

As we marched in parade

We were caught up in euphoria

Of all that went down that day.

We’re just so looking forw’d to this night

With prayers starting at eight.

We’re with the King we had hoped for,

And His Kingdom awaits.

All that singing, “Hosanna!”

Melodies we can’t shake.

I won’t be brewing coffee,

No plans to stay up late.

What’s with that dismal face on Judas?

Talk about one sour state.

We’re with the King at Passover.

And His Kingdom awaits.

All that singing, “Hosanna!”

These melodies I can’t shake.

We are starting any moment

Stick around, don’t be late.

I’m just so looking forw’d to this night…

Nice parody Nick, it will be hard not to think of this melody at Palm Sunday Mass this weekend.

  2. Brad Jones says:

I wonder if there is something special behind the fact that three of your songs I like best were inspired by the time around Easter (Forty Days, Holy Thursday and The Singing Hosanna Song).

  3. Beau Quilter says:

So, how often do people tell you that you look like comedian Dave Foley?
