World Youth Day Theme Song Thoughts Nick Alexander

World Youth Day Theme Song Thoughts

In my latest Prayer Meeting Podcast, there is a part where I share my thoughts about the theme song that accompanied World Youth Day 2013.  I had hoped to include this song into my upcoming hymnal, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.  As I stated, I find that the translation is very clunky and doesn’t work lyrically, as in a song itself.

Somebody made mention that my comments justify the criticism of the New Mass.  But I want to make it clear: I don’t have any qualms with the lyrics of the new mass.  I find that the words of the new liturgy are absolutely beautiful and rich, and solid.  Whatever new melodies and approaches to be crafted based on the lyrics of the liturgy can be done, but will take time.  It is more important that theological accuracy and integrity to ancient norms are to be preserved over the ever-changing roundtable of musical approaches to song.

This is not the case for a recently-crafted worship song, albeit in another tongue.

Nonetheless, here’s the video. Enjoy:
